Appointment of Ordinary Abbot for the Territorial Abbey of Montecassino (Italy)
The Holy Father Francis has appointed Rev. P. Donato Ogliari, O.S.B, until now the Abbot of the Santa Maria della Scala Monastery in Noci (Italy), as Ordinary Abbot for the Territorial Abbey of Montecassino.
The Pope has contextually applied the Motu Proprio "Catholica Ecclesia" to the territorial Abbey of Montecassino, with the consequent reduction of this territory, deciding in particular that: the territory where the Abbatial Church and the Monastery, with its direct relevances, belong to the new territorial configuration of the "territorial Abbey of Montecassino" ecclesiastic district; 53 parishes with their faithful, lay and religious clergies, the religious communities, the seminarians pass under the dioceses of Sora-Aquino-Pontecorvo; the dioceses of Sora-Aquino-Pontecorvo will change its name to Sora-Cassino-Aquino-Pontecorvo. Rev. P. Donato Ogliari, O.S.B, was born in Erba (Como) on December 10, 1956.
Entering the Istituto Missioni Consolata as a boy, he followed through with his education until priesthood. After Liceo Classico, he attended a two-year philosophical course in Torin and a three-year course in Theology in London, where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Theology and a Master of Arts Diploma in Religious Sciences.
After his Ordainment as a priest he had a brief experience in the educational field and he then followed up on his studies at the Katholieke Universiteit of Lovanio (Belgium) where he received a Bachelor Degree in Philosophy, a degree and a PhD in Holy Theology.
In 1988 he requested to enter in the Abbey of Praglia (Padova) to begin his monastic life and then to be assigned to the Madonna della Scala Abbey of Noci (Bari), where he entered in 1989 and gave his sacred vows in 1992. Here his role was that of editorial Director of the "La Scala" magazine from 1990 to today, teacher of the novices from 1993 to 1999, and Prelate Administrator from 2004 to 2006.
He was elected Abbot in this Apulian community in 2006, receiving the Abbatial Blessing on October 7, 2006.
He was Counselor in the Italian Province of the Benedictine Sublacense Congregation (from 2003 to 2012) and the President of the Commission for Education (2003-2008). He has been vice-president of the Italian Monastic Conference (C.I.M.) since 2008 and he has been Visitor of the Italian Monasteries of the Benedictine Sublacense-Cassinese Congregation since 2012.
He has published some books and several articles especially concerning religious and spiritual subjects.
